In spring 2008, the DFG (German Reserach Foundation) worked out Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality, which were agreed upon by the DFG member institutions during the general assembly in July 2008. Among others, Kiel University committed itself to implement the Standards on Gender Equality on its own responsibility within the next five years.

A first statement (in German) on the progress of the implementation of the Standards - the planned measures and the equal opportunity aims - had been worked out by the responsible parties at Kiel University. DFG will consider first positive results regarding the implementation in its funding decisions. Information on the Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality can be found here.

The statement of Kiel University on the Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality was rewarded by the respective DFG working group with the second best rating (rank 3). This implies that a convincing overall concept has already been implemented at Kiel University in most parts. Furthermore, the submitted interim report (in German) as well as the final report (in German) were succesfully rated with rank 3.

From 2014 on, the university has to report detailed information about the number of women in research positions once a year.
